Free Bicycle Safety Classes! Register Now!

Walk Bike Glendale is excited to partner with City of Glendale Community Services and Parks Dept., Metro and the Office of Traffic Safety to bring two bicycle safety classes to Glendale this September! If you or someone you know is new to bicycling or needs a refresher on the rules of the road please have them register ASAP.  Space is limited to 12 participants per class so they will fill up fast.

When:  Friday Sept. 6, 2013 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm & Saturday Sept. 7, 2013 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Where: Pacific Community Center Glendale

Learn to ride your bike safely and confidently with traffic, on city and residential streets, or just about anywhere you could want to go on paved roads.  The Street Cycling Skills class is an 8-hour course that Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and Metro are offering free to the public for the summer of 2013. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The class is taught by League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) certified by the League of American Bicyclists. The 8-hour course includes classroom instruction, a bicycle handling practice session, on-road riding, and a short exam at the end of class.

When: Saturday Sept. 14, 2013  9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Where: Pacific Community Center Glendale

A shortened version of the “Street Cycling Skills” class, learn the basics of riding your bike safely and confidently with traffic on city and residential streets.  The “Bicycling on the Road: Need to Know” class is a 3-hour course that Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and Metro is offering free to the public for the summer of 2013. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The class is taught by League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) certified by the League of American Bicyclists. The 3-hour course includes classroom instruction, a bicycle handling practice session, and on-road riding. Each class participant will receive a free helmet, front & rear lights, and educational materials.

For both Classes:

* Students must be 18 or older.
* Advance registration required.
* All students must bring a bicycle in good working condition.
* Students will receive a free helmet, bike lights, and educational materials.

  1. We will. The main obstacle is raising funding to pay the instructors. We are currently looking for educational grant opportunities to expand our education programs. If you know of any foundations in Glendale that might be interested in funding us, let us know.

    • I don’t know of any grants. How much do those instructors charge? Maybe you could just ask people in Glendale to send you five dollars or so on Paypal until you get enough. Teens need this class more than adults. Most don’t drive, so they are not used to the rules of the road.
